Roberto Leal and 'Pasapalabra' receive unexpected news that changes everything

The Supreme Court excludes Mediaset from the conflict over 'El Rosco' of 'Pasapalabra'

Roberto Leal breathes. The Supreme Court has made a decision that changes the course of the controversy over the rights to "El Rosco," the key challenge of "Pasapalabra." Mediaset España is left out of the judicial process that involved several companies over the intellectual property of this popular contest.

The Civil Chamber issued an order on April 22, 2025. In it, it rejected Mediaset's request to be part of the proceedings between ITV Studios and MC&F Broadcasting Production and Distribution. These two companies have been disputing the ownership of "El Rosco" for years.

Mediaset requested to participate, claiming it had a legitimate interest. Its argument was based on a contract with ITV to broadcast "Pasapalabra," including the famous challenge. However, the Court considered that Mediaset doesn't have rights over the intellectual property of "El Rosco." Therefore, its request was not accepted.

Additionally, the Court recalled that Mediaset had already attempted to challenge a previous ruling. That lawsuit was rejected in 2024, which reinforced the Supreme Court's position. Therefore, Mediaset can't use this new appeal to overturn a firm decision.

Atresmedia and ITV also opposed Mediaset entering the process. They argued that the network's request was not in good faith. Moreover, they pointed out that Mediaset did not participate from the beginning of the litigation, even though it had the opportunity to do so.

This lawsuit has a history. In 2019, the Supreme Court ruled that Mediaset had to stop broadcasting "Pasapalabra." Since then, Antena 3 took over, with Roberto Leal as host. The "El Rosco" challenge remains the program's biggest attraction.

"Pasapalabra" will continue as before

With this decision, the Supreme Court reaffirms that ITV and MC&F are the legitimate owners of the rights. This clears the way for "Pasapalabra" to continue on Antena 3 without legal issues. Roberto Leal can continue at the helm with complete security.

For Mediaset, the ruling is a severe blow. The network is excluded from a dispute that could have allowed it to regain some control over "Pasapalabra." Now it must focus on other programming bets.

The public also benefits. The end of the litigation guarantees the continuity of the contest. Followers will be able to enjoy the format without interruptions or legal controversies.

This case reflects the complexity of television rights. Contracts, licenses, and intellectual property often generate long and complicated conflicts. But with this resolution, at least one part is closed.

In summary, the Supreme Court has made it clear that Mediaset has no role in this battle. Meanwhile, ITV and MC&F maintain control over "El Rosco." Thus, "Pasapalabra" with Roberto Leal continues on Antena 3.

The coming months will be key for the program. Without legal shadows, it can focus on renewing its content and maintaining audience loyalty. The contest remains one of the Spanish public's favorites.
